Panthers add Cason, Underwood

Mar 21, 2014 - 11:58 PM Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Carolina Panthers have signed cornerback Antoine Cason to a one-year contract and wide receiver Tiquan Underwood to a two-year contract.

"These are players who have an opportunity to play a role with our football team," said Panthers coach Ron Rivera. "I have experience with Antoine and look forward to working with him again. Tiquan has the kind of speed that helps any team and has shown good progress as a receiver."

Cason saw action in all 16 games last season with the Arizona Cardinals, totaling 14 tackles, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

The 27-year-old Cason played five seasons with the San Diego Chargers before joining the Cardinals last season. He played in 80 games with the Chargers, starting 49.

In 96 career games with San Diego and Arizona, Cason has 322 tackles, 14 interceptions, 58 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Underwood spent the past two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2013, he caught 24 passes for 440 yards and four touchdowns over 12 games (seven starts).

In 45 career games with the Jaguars, Patriots and Bucs, Underwood has 63 receptions for 1,006 yards and six touchdowns.

The Panthers also signed quarterback Joe Webb to a one-year package. A sixth- round draft pick by Minnesota in 2010, Webb has played both QB and wide receiver over his NFL career. He has connected on 88-of-152 throws for 853 yards with three TDs and five interceptions.
