Panthers' Hardy released from jail
May 14, 2014 - 9:23 PM Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy was released from jail on Wednesday after posting $17,000 bond following his arrest on domestic violence charges.Hardy turned himself into police on Tuesday and faces charges of misdemeanor assault on a female and communicating threats. He posted $15,000 bond on the assault charge and $2,000 on the threat charge and was released from Mecklenburg County Jail.
According to the Charlotte Observer, which obtained the police incident report and a request for a protective order, Hardy attacked girlfriend Nicole Holder in his apartment on Tuesday.
The protective order said Hardy threw Holder into the tile tub area of his bathroom, inflicting bruises from head to toe, pulled her out by her hair and threatened to kill her.
Holder said Hardy choked her with both hands around her throat and threw her onto a couch covered with assault rifles and shotguns. She said Hardy told her all the weapons were loaded.
When she begged for Hardy and his "administrative assistant" to let her go, she was pushed out of his apartment, crawled to the elevator and ran to the police.
Hardy appeared in court and was told by a judge not to have contact with Holder. He also must attend three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings each week.
The next court date for Hardy is June 27.
Hardy tied a franchise record with 15 sacks in 2013. The Panthers placed the franchise tag on him at a cost of $13.1 million this season.
The Panthers agreed recently to give Hardy as much as $1.3 million - 10 percent of his franchise tag - if he attends all of the team's voluntary offseason workouts, which are ongoing.
A sixth-round steal by the Panthers in the 2010 draft, Hardy has 33 sacks in 62 career games with Carolina.
