Jets grab RB Richardson off waivers

May 16, 2014 - 10:21 PM Florham Park, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Jets acquired running back Daryl Richardson on Friday, one day after he was placed on waivers by the St. Louis Rams.

Richardson averaged 4.8 yards on 98 carries while adding 24 receptions as a rookie seventh-round draft choice for the Rams in 2012, but was limited to just seven games by a toe injury this past season. He finished with 215 yards on 69 rush attempts and caught 14 passes for 121 yards.

With Zac Stacy emerging as St. Louis' feature back in Richardson's absence and the Rams taking 2013 Heisman Trophy finalist Tre Mason in the third round of last week's draft, the Abilene Christian product was deemed expendable.

Richardson joins a crowded backfield as well in New York, which signed six- time 1,000-yard rusher Chris Johnson in April and received a career-high 833 rushing yards from returnee Chris Ivory last season.
