Bills' Watkins signs contract

May 28, 2014 - 8:35 PM Orchard Park, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The Buffalo Bills now have their top pick of the 2014 NFL Draft under contract after agreeing to terms with heralded wide receiver Sammy Watkins on Wednesday.

Watkins, taken by Buffalo with the No. 4 overall choice, becomes the highest selection of this year's draft to strike a deal with his new team.

Financial terms have yet to come available, though the former Clemson All- American is expected to receive slightly more than the four-year, $18.7 million contract No. 5 overall pick Khalil Mack signed with the Oakland Raiders.

The Bills paid a steep price to land Watkins, who put up 1,464 yards and 12 touchdowns on 101 receptions in his final season at Clemson and capped his collegiate career with a tremendous 16-catch, 227-yard, two-touchdown performance against Ohio State in January's Orange Bowl. Buffalo surrendered its 2015 first-round pick to Cleveland in order to move five spots to the No. 4 slot, then traded away its most established wideout -- Stevie Johnson -- to San Francisco the day after the move.

Watkins is expected to enter the season as the top target for second-year quarterback E.J. Manuel.
