St. Louis Rams 2014 Training Camp Preview
Jul 17, 2014 - 6:07 PM (SportsNetwork.com) -REPORT DATES: July 22 (rookies), July 24 (veterans)
SITE: Rams Park Training Center, Earth City, MO
CAMP CONFIDENTIAL: This is likely the make-or-break year for Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, who will be returning from a torn ACL suffered in Week 7 of last season.
The fact that Bradford and the Rams play in a division where three teams won 10- or-more games a year ago isn't going to help matters but Jeff Fisher's club figures to have one of the NFL's best fronts on defense and an offense with some pretty impressive pieces if the QB can hold his own water.
KEY OFFENSIVE ACQUISITION: Greg Robinson, the No. 2 overall pick in May's NFL Draft, is so athletic that many project him as the next Orlando Pace in St. Louis.
He's been slow to pick things up during the offseason and is projected to start his career inside at left guard but Robinson is extremely gifted with an incredibly high ceiling as a prospect.
"We're a lot better now," Fisher said. "We all know what Greg (Robinson) is capable of doing. He's an outstanding young man. We'll plug him in where we feel he's got the best chance to be successful right now. You talk about an athlete. Powerful, quick, great quickness and strength. He's got a chance to be a dominant player."
KEY DEFENSIVE ACQUISITION: Defensive tackle Aaron Donald, St. Louis' other first-round pick, is a bit undersized but has such great quickness that some have compared him to John Randle, the former Minnesota Vikings star who is now enshrined in Canton.
Teaming Donald, who should have been a top-10 pick, with ends like Robert Quinn, perhaps the best pass rusher in all of football, and Chris Long is sure to give Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick some sleepless nights in the ultra-tough NFC West.
"Aaron is very, very productive; he's an outstanding young man," Fisher said. "He's way ahead in hand use on the line of scrimmage. He does an outstanding job with his hands."
