Dolphins top Bucs
Aug 17, 2014 - 3:10 AM Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Moore went 13-of-19 passing for 158 yards and a touchdown to help the Miami Dolphins in a 20-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in preseason action on Saturday.Damien Williams rushed for 20 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown and hauled in three passes for a team-high 46 yards. Rishard Matthews finished with three receptions for 43 yards and a score in the win.
Tampa Bay starter Josh McCown tossed for 46 yards on 5-of-7 passing and a score for Tampa Bay. Mike Kafka also added a touchdown pass late in the contest.
After each team's offense went six plays without any points in the opening minutes, Ryan Tannehill orchestrated an 11-play, 62-yard drive that resulted in a successful 48-yard field goal from John Potter.
Tannehill went 9-of-14 for 110 yards in limited action.
Gerald McCoy stripped Tannehill on the ensuing Dolphins possession, and the turnover turned into points as McCown found Vincent Jackson for a 7-yard score.
Tampa Bay looked to add on midway through the second when Mike Glennon connected with rookie Mike Evans on a 42-yard touchdown strike. The play was reviewed, however, with video evidence showing Evans fumbling the ball at the 1-yard line and it went out of bounds in the end zone for a touchback.
With time winding down in the first half, Moore capped a quick 71-yard drive in just over 1 1/2 minutes with a 9-yard touchdown to Matthews to give the visitors a three-point edge at the break.
Following a three-and-out from Tampa Bay on its opening possession in the third quarter, Moore led the Dolphins down field for another touchdown drive. The nine-play, 71-yard march was highlighted by a 21-yard reception by Kevin Cone, then Williams punched it in from a yard out to increase the halftime lead.
Dion Jordan caused a fumble off a sack of Glennon later in the third and Terrence Fede was there to recover the loose ball for the turnover. Potter converted from 51 yards out to make it a 20-7 margin late in the third.
On 4th-and-10 on the Miami 13 with under a minute to play, Kafka hooked up with Lavelle Hawkins for a touchdown. Armon Binns recovered the Bucs onside kick attempt as the Dolphins ran out the remainder of the clock.
