Dolphins bring back Thomas following Moreno injury

Sep 15, 2014 - 7:30 PM Davie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - With Knowshon Moreno facing a significant absence, the Miami Dolphins have re-signed fellow running back Daniel Thomas.

Thomas, a second-round pick of the Dolphins in the 2011 draft, rushed for 1,312 yards and scored 11 touchdowns (eight rushing, three receiving) over three seasons with the team. He was waived by Miami during final cuts in August, in part due to the club's acquisition of Moreno in free agency.

However, the Miami Herald reported that Moreno dislocated his left elbow and suffered a possible fracture on his first and only carry of Sunday's 29-10 loss at Buffalo. The former Denver Bronco is expected to be sidelined anywhere from 4-to-8 weeks depending on the severity of the injury.

Moreno, who rushed for 1,038 yards and caught a career-high 60 passes for the AFC champion Broncos last season, ran for 134 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries in an impressive Dolphins' debut against New England in Week 1.

Cornerback Sammy Seamster was placed on injured reserve to clear a space for Thomas. The rookie hurt his shoulder in the second half of the Buffalo game.
