Bucs and DT McCoy agree to 7-year deal

Oct 25, 2014 - 6:52 PM Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and defensive tackle Gerald McCoy agreed to terms on a seven-year contract Saturday.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but reports indicate it to be worth up to $98 million with $51.5 million in guaranteed money.

McCoy, the third overall pick of the 2010 draft, has posted two sacks and 17 tackles this season. He missed two games with a broken hand.

The Oklahoma product missed 13 games in his first two seasons due to injuries, but played in all 32 games over 2012 and 2013, garnering Pro Bowl nods in each of those seasons.

"We knew it was vital for us to keep Gerald in Tampa Bay long term as one of the cornerstones of our franchise," said Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht in a statement Saturday. "On the field, Gerald is one of the best players in the National Football League, who has been extremely productive and will be for years to come. We are happy to reward someone that has a rare work ethic, which not only makes him an elite player, but serves as an example for our entire team. His commitment, character and leadership are attributes that make him a truly special person, who will play a pivotal role in our future success."

McCoy has totaled 20 1/2 sacks along with 136 tackles during his career.
