McCoy to start for Redskins, if healthy
Dec 11, 2014 - 6:03 PM Ashburn, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Colt McCoy will be the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins on Sunday against the New York Giants if he is medically cleared to play.Redskins coach Jay Gruden made the announcement Thursday, but added that Robert Griffin III would be the starter if McCoy is unable to play for health reasons.
McCoy suffered a neck sprain during last Sunday's 24-0 loss to St. Louis. He practiced Thursday and will be examined by a doctor on Friday.
It would be the third straight start for McCoy, who took over after Griffin was benched three weeks ago.
McCoy threw for 199 yards with a pair of interceptions last week against the Rams after a 392-yard, three-touchdown performance the week before in a 49-27 loss to Indianapolis.
The Redskins haven't won a game since McCoy led them to a 20-17 overtime win in Dallas on Oct. 27.
Griffin returned from an ankle injury the following week and started three games -- losses to the Vikings, Buccaneers and 49ers -- before being benched.
No one has shouted yet.
