Cards QB Stanton doesn't need surgery

Dec 12, 2014 - 8:14 PM Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton doesn't need surgery on his injured right knee and could play again this season, his coach said Friday.

Bruce Arians said Stanton is currently day-to-day with what has been reported to be a sprained knee.

Stanton was injured on a sack by St. Louis defensive tackle Aaron Donald in the third quarter of Thursday night's 12-6 win over the Rams. He was carted off the field, but an MRI showed only two sprains, according to multiple reports.

Stanton was 12-of-20 for 109 yards before leaving the game. He made his fifth consecutive start since Carson Palmer tore a ligament in his left knee on Nov. 9.

Ryan Lindley replaced Stanton at quarterback on Thursday night but Arians said he would have to think about who will start the team's next game on Dec. 21 against Seattle.
