Redskins name McCloughan new GM
Jan 9, 2015 - 12:02 AM Ashburn, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Redskins hired long-time scout and former San Francisco 49ers general manager Scot McCloughan as the team's new GM on Thursday.McCloughan, who helped construct the rosters of two of the NFC West's most successful teams in recent years, is expected to have full control of personnel decisions. Bruce Allen, who had been serving as both the Redskins' GM and team president, will now concentrate solely on his duties in the latter role.
McCloughan last served in the NFL as a senior personnel executive for the Seattle Seahawks from 2010-13 before founding Instinctive Scouting, LLC before the 2014 NFL draft.
Prior to his stint in Seattle, McCloughan was vice president of player personnel for the 49ers from 2005-07 and was promoted to general manager for the 2008-09 season.
McCloughan was the architect behind San Francisco's successful drafts that yielded talented players such as Dashon Goldson, Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Joe Staley and Patrick Willis.
He also contributed to the 2011-13 drafts for Seattle, which drafted All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman and two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson during that time.
The 43-year-old was also a scout for the Green Bay Packers from 1994-99 and the Seahawks' director of college scouting during 2000-04.
