Redskins hire Barry as defensive coordinator
Jan 21, 2015 - 2:04 AM Ashburn, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Redskins hired Joe Barry as their new defensive coordinator on Tuesday.Barry spent the past four seasons as linebackers coach for the San Diego Chargers.
He has held numerous other jobs on coaching staffs at the NFL and college levels during a 20-year career, including a stint as defensive coordinator for the NFL's Detroit Lions from 2007-08.
The Redskins announced last month that Jim Haslett wouldn't return after five seasons as defensive coordinator.
Washington went 4-12 this past season and ranked 20th in the NFL in yards allowed. Only Oakland and Chicago gave up more points.
