Jets tab Kacy Rodgers as new defensive coordinator

Jan 23, 2015 - 8:35 PM Florham Park, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Jets and new head coach Todd Bowles continued crafting the coaching staff Friday by hiring Kacey Rodgers as defensive coordinator and Bobby April as special teams coordinator.

Rodgers served as the Dolphins' defensive line coach over the past seven seasons. During his tenure with Miami, Rodgers' defensive lines helped compile 287 sacks, which was the third most in the NFL during that span.

Bowles previously coached with Rodgers in Dallas (2005-07) and Miami (2008-11).

April will join his eighth NFL team after spending the past two seasons as Oakland's special teams coordinator. He also served in the same capacity with Philadelphia (2010-12), Buffalo (2004-09), St. Louis (2001-03), Pittsburgh (1994-95) and Atlanta (1991-93).

The Jets also hired Mike Caldwell as assistant head coach and inside linebackers coach, Mark Collins as outside linebackers coach, Joe Danna as defensive backs coach, Karl Dorrell as wide receivers coach and Robby Brown as offensive quality control coach.
