Dolphins release Hartline

Feb 27, 2015 - 9:49 PM Davie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Dolphins have released wide receivers Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson in salary cap maneuvers.

Hartline had spent each of his six NFL seasons with Miami and was set to earn $5.9 million in 2015. The move will instead save the Dolphins $3.15 million against the cap.

The 28-year-old Ohio State product had consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in 2012 and 2013, but saw fewer passes last season. He started all 16 games, but had just 39 receptions for 474 yards with two touchdowns.

In 92 games, 69 of which have been starts, Hartline has 298 catches for 4,243 yards with 12 touchdowns.

The Dolphins will save $3.26 million against the cap by releasing Gibson.

Gibson, 27, caught 29 passes for 295 yards and a touchdown in 2014. In two seasons with the Dolphins, he made 59 catches for 621 yards and four touchdowns.

In six career seasons, Gibson has 233 catches for 2,711 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Rams and Dolphins. He was drafted by Philadelphia out of Washington State in 2009, but only played in one game without a catch before being traded to St. Louis.
