Dolphins place transition tag on Clay

Mar 2, 2015 - 8:29 PM Davie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Dolphins have placed the transition tag on tight end Charles Clay.

A transition designation will give Clay the opportunity to test free agency, but also gives the Dolphins the right to match any offer. Clay will earn the average of the top-10 salaries at the position, which will be $7.7 million.

Clay has played his entire four-year career with the Dolphins, making the transition from fullback in college to tight end. He caught 58 passes for 605 yards and three touchdowns last season after hauling a career-best 69 passes for 759 yards with six scores in 2013.

In 58 games, 47 of which have been starts, the Tulsa product has 161 receptions for 1,809 yards with 14 touchdowns.
