Jets announce Revis signing
Mar 12, 2015 - 2:59 AM Florham Park, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Darrelle Revis' reunion with the New York Jets is now complete, with the team confirming the shutdown cornerback's signing in a press release issued Wednesday night.Revis announced via Twitter late on Tuesday that he was returning to the Jets, the team the four-time All-Pro spent his first six seasons with. According to multiple reports, he agreed to a five-year, $70 million contract with $39 million fully guaranteed.
"I'm just very excited. I feel this is my home. That's always been on my mind since I was drafted in (2007)," Revis told the Jets' official site on Wednesday. "This organization embraced me, gave me a chance and an opportunity to live out my dreams and fulfill my dreams. So my heart has always been here."
A contract dispute led to the Jets trading Revis to Tampa Bay in April of 2013. He spent just one season with the Buccaneers before being released and promptly signed with the New England Patriots, where he helped the Jets' AFC East rivals win Super Bowl XLIX last month.
Revis became a free agent once again after the Patriots declined to pick up a $20 million option on his contract just prior to Tuesday's start of the new league year.
The 29-year-old started all 16 games last season for the Patriots, collecting 47 tackles and two interceptions on the way to a sixth Pro Bowl nod.
Revis is one of several high-profile acquisitions made by the Jets this offseason as they attempt to bounce back from a 4-12 season. New York also landed star receiver Brandon Marshall and veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in trades along with signing two other key free agents, guard James Carpenter and cornerback Buster Skrine.
Carpenter, part of back-to-back NFC championship teams in Seattle, agreed to a four-year contract worth approximately $5 million per season, according to NFL.com. The Jets announced his signing shortly before confirming Revis' deal.
A first-round pick of the Seahawks in 2011, Carpenter started 39 games and five postseason contests during his four-year tenure in Seattle. The 26-year- old is expected to replace free agent Willie Colon at right guard.
