Panthers keep Dickson with three-year deal
Mar 12, 2015 - 3:04 PM Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Carolina Panthers re-signed tight end Ed Dickson on Thursday.Financial terms of the three-year deal were not disclosed.
Dickson joined the Panthers last spring as a free agent after spending his first four seasons in Baltimore. He appeared in 16 games last year, starting 10, and finished with 10 catches for 115 yards with a touchdown.
"I'm heavily rooted in my immediate family and being here felt like family," said Dickson in a statement Thursday. "I'm excited to continue to work with the guys in the tight end room on and off the field. I feel honored to play with those guys again and have (tight ends coach) Pete Hoener coaching us."
In addition to tight end, Dickson also spent time last season as a blocking back for injured fullback Mike Tolbert. He also started both postseason games for the NFC South champs, catching three passes for 67 yards.
"Down the stretch, Ed played a very valuable role for us," said Panthers coach Ron Rivera. "Ed brings us that second tight end threat. He's a guy that can both block and catch effectively. He and Greg Olsen give us a very good tandem."
Dickson, selected by Baltimore in the third round of the 2010 draft, won a Super Bowl title with the Ravens after the 2012 season. He has 121 receptions for 1,293 yards with eight touchdowns in 76 regular-season games, adding 13 catches for 196 yards in 10 playoff games.
