Panthers sign Todman

Mar 30, 2015 - 5:49 PM Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Carolina Panthers signed running back Jordan Todman to a one-year contract on Monday.

Todman played the last three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Last season, he played in all 16 games with one start, rushing 32 times for 186 yards, including a 62-yard touchdown. He added 25 receptions for 198 yards and a touchdown.

"Any time you get a chance to play football and do what you love it's a great opportunity," Todman said. "I'm excited to come to a playoff team, a team with upside that wants to be great."

Todman served as the team's primary kickoff returner, averaging 25.6 yards on 38 returns for 972 yards. He finished tied for second on the team with seven special teams tackles.

"Jordan is a veteran running back who has had some success in this league," Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. "We think he has some return skills and we are always looking to be good in that area. At running back, he brings versatility. He is stout and physical enough to run the ball up inside, but he's got the quickness and speed to get outside to the corner."

A sixth-round pick of the Chargers out of Connecticut in 2011, Todman has spent time with San Diego, Minnesota and Jacksonville during his career, rushing for 450 yards and three scores. He also has 40 receptions for 314 yards and two touchdowns and returned 68 kickoffs for 1,762 yards, a 25.9-yard average.
