Oakland (0-1) at Kansas City (0-1), 1:00 pm EDT
KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Damon Huard will take the place of injured starter Brodie Croyle under center when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the rival Oakland Raiders on Sunday.
A 12-year veteran, mostly as a backup, Huard played well after Croyle got hurt in last Sunday's 17-10 loss to the New England Patriots. He completed 8-of-12 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown with one interception.
Huard, however, failed to get the Chiefs in the end zone after having a 1st-and-goal at the 5-yard line with less than a minute to play. Croyle passed for 88 yards before leaving in the third quarter with a separated shoulder.
With Croyle sidelined for an undetermined period of time, Kansas City will have to depend on its running game. Two-time Pro Bowler Larry Johnson rushed for 74 yards on 22 carries against the Patriots.
The Raiders' defense did not look like it could stop much of anything in their 41-14 loss to the Denver Broncos.
Oakland, which trailed, 27-0, entering the final quarter, surrendered 441 total yards - including 299 passing yards.
Acquired by the Raiders via an offseason trade, cornerback DeAngelo Hall was victimized numerous times by rookie Eddie Royal, who hauled in nine catches for 146 yards and a touchdown.
Offensively, Oakland is led by its rushing game. Justin Fargas rushed for 97 yards and rookie Darren McFadden added 46.
JaMarcus Russell, who was playing in his fifth career game after being taken with the top overall pick in 2007, passed for 180 yards and two touchdowns but made a critical fumble inside the Broncos' 10-yard line on Oakland's first possession of the game.
