Gibson upstages Dubnyk, Ducks clip Wild
Mar 14, 2015 - 6:06 AM St. Paul, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - John Gibson outdueled Devan Dubnyk, and Jakob Silfverberg netted the deciding score late in the second period as Anaheim clipped Minnesota by a 2-1 count at Xcel Energy Center.Gibson's 32 saves upstaged Dubnyk's 22 stops, as the latter lost for just the fifth time in regulation since arriving in the Twin Cities back in mid- January.
"Position-wide I don't think you saw too many odd-man rushes," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. "When we're not allowing anything like that I think we're playing intelligently and solid."
Francois Beauchemin recorded the other goal and Ryan Kesler assisted on both for the Ducks, who put a three-game slide to rest.
Zach Parise netted the lone marker for the Wild, who have lost two of three since winning five straight.
Parise equalized for the hosts on the advantage at 11:31 of the middle frame, but a Matt Dumba turnover during a 4-on-4 led to a Simon Despres shot which was tipped home by Silfverberg and the Ducks were ahead 2-1 only 2:14 later.
"It was just a bad play by me. I caught in the headlights there," Dumba said. "I didn't want to go behind the net. I saw a guy coming. I have to do a better job to make a hard play there. It cost us tonight."
Dubnyk was out for an extra skater with 98 seconds remaining, but the Wild failed to generate significant offense. Typical for a game with so many near- misses by the hosts, Nino Niederreiter had a centering feed slither just off the heel of his blade with 30 seconds to play.
Silfverberg crossed up a Wild defender when he dished back to Beauchemin for a drive that eluded Dubnyk with 46.6 seconds to play in the first.
