Hurricanes use balanced effort to down Kings

Nov 3, 2014 - 3:07 AM Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Elias Lindholm scored the deciding goal and the Carolina Hurricanes continued their recent winning ways with a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday.

Chris Terry and Lindholm each finished with a goal and an assist and Victor Rask tallied his first career goal for the Hurricanes, who were coming off their first win of the season against Arizona on Saturday.

Cam Ward, who posted a 25-save shutout against the Coyotes, surrendered just two goals on 32 shots in the win.

"I thought we were really pushing the pace," said Ward. "To be able to beat the defending Stanley Cup champions proves that we can win against any team in this league."

Mike Richards and Alec Martinez both lit the lamp and Jonathan Quick stopped 29 shots in Los Angeles' fourth straight loss.

"I think we did a lot of good things," Kings head coach Darryl Sutter said. "We have trouble scoring, so just about every mistake you make is magnified."

Lindholm's snap shot from the top of the right circle with 3:59 remaining in the second extended the Hurricanes' lead to 3-1.

Los Angeles made it a one-goal game with 12:02 left to play after Martinez's shot from the point beat a screened Ward.

The Kings pulled Quick with under a minute to play, but weren't able to force the extra session.

Quick robbed Zach Boychuk with a quick flash of the glove to keep it a scoreless game with seven minutes to play in the opening stanza.

Rask, however, beat Quick for his first career goal with 1:34 to play in the first. Boychuk entered the Kings' zone up the right side and sent a cross-ice pass to Terry. Rask crashed the net and tipped Terry's feed into the net.

After Justin Williams went off for hooking early in the second, Terry's slap shot from the right circle found twine for a 2-0 Carolina lead 50 seconds into the second.

The Kings answered back with a power-play goal of their own. Williams slipped the puck to Drew Doughty at the left circle and Richards one-timed Doughty's feed off the post and past Ward with 5:39 elapsed in the middle frame.

Lindholm's snap shot from the top of the right circle with 3:59 remaining in the second extended the Hurricanes' lead to 3-1.
