Faulk, Hurricanes top Flames

Nov 11, 2014 - 3:48 AM Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Faulk tallied the go-ahead goal and two assists to lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Monday.

Jeff Skinner supplied a goal and an assist and Zach Boychuk and Tim Gleason both scored for the Hurricanes, who have registered at least a point in their last six games (5-0-1).

Cam Ward turned aside 22 shots to win his fifth straight start.

"It's huge whenever you have a goalie playing well," Faulk said of Ward. "When things do break down, he's there to make the save when we need it most."

David Jones netted Calgary's lone goal and Jonas Hiller made 27 saves in defeat.

"They got their first goal and it put us on our heels," Calgary head coach Bob Hartley said. "Tonight it just wasn't there."

Carolina needed just four seconds to cash in on Devin Setoguchi's minor for holding the stick. Riley Nash won a faceoff back to Faulk, who skated across to the slot and fired a shot under the arm of Hiller for a 2-1 lead five minutes into the second.

Alexander Semin skated toward the right corner, turned around and backhanded a pass to Skinner, who finished off the play with a wrister from the right circle to extend the Hurricanes' advantage at 12:15 of the middle frame.

Gleason's snap shot off a feed from Skinner 9:10 into the final stanza accounted for the final score.

After Semin went off for tripping, Calgary struck first on the man advantage. Mark Giordano skated up to the left circle and dished a pass to Curtis Glencross down low. Glencross sent the puck to Jones, who capped the play with a quick snap shot in close with 6:53 left in the opening stanza.

Boychuk tied the game with 2:30 left in the first. Boychuk entered the offensive zone up the left side and fought off the persistent checking of Giordano before snapping a shot off the shoulder of Hiller and into the back of the net.
