Talbot, Rangers blank Hurricanes for 6th straight win

Dec 22, 2014 - 3:02 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Cam Talbot made 18 saves in backstopping the surging New York Rangers to a 1-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes Sunday night in the back end of a home-and-home set.

Ryan McDonagh scored in the first period to give Talbot all the support he needed. The backup goaltender, who signed a contract extension on Friday, has three wins this season, all coming via shutout.

The Rangers won their season-high sixth straight game and continued their home dominance against the Hurricanes, who have dropped eight in a row at Madison Square Garden.

Anton Khudobin played well for Carolina, making 30 saves, but he still remains in search of his first win this season.

The Hurricanes have lost eight of their last nine games overall.
