Preds slow Flyers' roll thanks to power-play prowess

Dec 28, 2014 - 6:12 AM Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Pekka Rinne stopped 26 shots and Nashville pumped home three power-play goals to fuel a 4-1 decision over Philadelphia at Bridgestone Arena.

Colin Wilson scored twice and Filip Forsberg and Mike Fisher once each for the Predators, who have won six of their last eight. Roman Josi contributed two assists to the winning side.

Claude Giroux provided the sole offense for the Flyers, who had won the first three outings on their current eight-game road trip. Ray Emery surrendered three goals on 37 shots in defeat.

Matt Read and Giroux were sent off 26 seconds apart in the latter portion of the second period and Nashville cashed in twice in a span of 38 seconds to go up by a 3-1 count.

"We can't put ourselves in that position," Giroux said of the 5-on-3 disadvantage.

On the hosts' lead goal, Forsberg held at the left side then bounced a shot off Emery which then ricocheted off Fisher's knee and bounced in at 13:57.

Wilson followed by cranking one home from the bottom of the left circle through a James Neal screen and inside the far post at 14:35.

Jakub Voracek -- the NHL's leading scorer -- had Rinne dead to rights but missed an open chance by shooting high halfway through the third.

Emery was pulled with four minutes left, but Wilson soloed to the empty net at 16:42 to effectively wrap up the game.

Philly had a late advantage but failed to click with the full two minutes.

Forsberg's power-play marker before the midway point of the first period gave the hosts the lead. He fired away from the right circle and the puck found its way by a Fisher screen and Emery.

"It's nice getting (the power play) going," Wilson said. "We need confidence in our power play. Hopefully it gets us going."

Rinne did his best to preserve the slim lead when he dove across his crease to the right post to gobble up an open backhanded chance by Chris VandeVelde less than five minutes into the second period.

The Flyers evened the score when Giroux gloved down an airborne Braydon Coburn lead pass in the neutral zone and converted from the right wing off a 2-on-1 break at the 6:50 mark.
