Schneider backs Devils over Preds
Mar 4, 2015 - 5:17 AM Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Cory Schneider stopped 33 shots to lead the New Jersey Devils in a 3-1 win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.Adam Larsson, Eric Gelinas and Mike Cammalleri each scored a goal for the Devils, who have won their past two.
"We felt good tonight, we were energetic and got all over them," said Schneider. "We scored two quick goals and were really able to take it to them from the start."
Mike Fisher had the only goal of the game for the Predators, who have lost four straight in regulation. Carter Hutton allowed two goals on 23 shots in the loss.
"I think it's like the last nine games we haven't scored first," said Fisher. "We can't keep playing catch-up and I don't know why we've been coming out flat so often."
The Devils scored just 58 seconds in as Patrik Elias skated in down the left wing and sent it over to the slot where Larsson wristed it into the left corner for his third of the year.
Three minutes later, New Jersey made it a 2-0 game as Gelinas' one-timer from the high slot found the back of the net for his fifth of the season.
Nashville scored the only goal of the second period and did so 2:11 in as Fisher snapped in a rebound from the left side for his 16th goal of the season.
Schneider, who made 20 saves in the second period, turned aside 10 in the final frame to keep Nashville from tying.
Cammalleri was hauled down near the Nashville net with Hutton on the bench for an extra attacker, and he was awarded a goal with 1:14 to play to account for the final score.
