Schneider, Devils shut down Penguins

Mar 18, 2015 - 3:35 AM Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Cory Schneider stopped all 35 shots he faced and Jacob Josefson scored the game winner late in the second period as New Jersey silenced Pittsburgh by a 2-0 count at Prudential Center.

Adam Henrique added an empty-net score late for the Devils, who have won two in a row. Schneider earned his fifth shutout of the season, making the most saves in a whitewash since a 38-save effort against the Coyotes on Feb. 23.

Thomas Greiss made just 17 saves for the Penguins, who have dropped three straight and four of five. Pittsburgh has also been blanked in two of its last three contests.

"First and third period we generated some really good chances and Schneider made some good saves," said Penguins forward Sidney Crosby.

Josefson beat Greiss on an odd-man rush with a shot perfectly placed off the left post with 3:35 left before the second intermission.

Schneider stopped 14 shots in the first period and ensured the one-goal lead held up with eight more stops in the middle frame.

"After the first period, I made some good saves and felt good about myself," said Schneider.

Schneider then turned away 13 more Penguins opportunities in the third and Henrique sealed the victory by scoring with 49 seconds to go.
