Blues top Avalanche in shootout

Nov 2, 2014 - 6:06 AM St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Joakim Lindstrom scored in the second round of the shootout to lift the St. Louis Blues over the Colorado Avalanche, 3-2, on Saturday.

"I've been practicing quite a bit," Lindstrom said of being in the shootout. "I was comfortable being in that position."

Vladimir Tarasenko scored a pair of goals for the Blues, who have won four in a row. Brian Elliott made 27 saves and stopped Gabriel Landeskog, Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly in the shootout.

O'Reilly and Nathan MacKinnon each had one goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who fell to 3-4-5 on the young season. Semyon Varlamov stopped 27- of-29 shots.

"We're 0-for-5 in overtime and the shootout," Avs head coach Patrick Roy said. "We're going to have to put some in if we're going to win these games."

Tarasenko's blast from the right point gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead at the 16:29 mark of the first period.

Tarasenko tipped Alex Pietrangelo's shot past Varlamov 46 seconds into the third for a 2-0 lead.

Colorado responded with two power play goals. O'Reilly jammed home his own rebound at 2:19 and MacKinnon scored from the slot at 5:13.

The Blues were without T.J. Oshie (concussion) and former Avalanche center Paul Stastny (shoulder) ... Blues captain David Backes returned after missing Thursday with a concussion ... Former St. Louis defenseman Erik Johnson had two assists for Colorado ... St. Louis went 0-for-3 on the power play.
