Flyers G Emery to start Game 3
Apr 21, 2014 - 4:39 PM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Flyers have named Ray Emery as their starting goaltender for Game 3 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the New York Rangers.Emery has started the first two games of this best-of-seven set in place of regular starter Steve Mason, who was injured in Philadelphia's penultimate regular-season game when Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jayson Megna pushed Philadelphia defenseman Andrew MacDonald into the netminder in the crease.
Emery stopped 32-of-36 shots in a Game 1 loss before turning aside all but two of the 33 shots he faced Sunday to help the Flyers even the series with a 4-2 win.
As in the first two games, Cal Heeter, who has just one game of NHL experience, will back up Emery.
Game 3 is slated for Tuesday at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
