Sens lock up Michalek for 3 years

Jul 1, 2014 - 4:48 PM Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Shortly after dealing Jason Spezza to the Dallas Stars, the Ottawa Senators locked up unrestricted free agent forward Milan Michalek with a three-year contract.

This new pact, announced Tuesday afternoon, will pay Michalek $12 million for the duration, with an average annual value of $4 million per season.

Michalek participated in all 82 games for the first time in his career last season, totaling 17 goals and 22 assists but finished a career-worst minus-25.

The former sixth-overall selection of San Jose in the 2003 draft, Michalek has racked up 187 goals and 394 points over 10 NHL seasons for the Sharks and Senators.

With Ottawa, the 29-year-old native of the Czech Republic has accumulated 96 tallies and 180 points over 314 contests.
