Oilers add Pouliot, Fayne
Jul 1, 2014 - 9:44 PM Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Edmonton Oilers were active at the outset of free agency, signing forward Benoit Pouliot to a five-year contract and defenseman Mark Fayne to a four-year deal on Tuesday.The 27-year-old Pouliot is coming off a run to the Stanley Cup Finals with the New York Rangers, his fifth team in as many seasons. He compiled 15 goals and 21 assists in 80 games for the Blueshirts, adding five goals and 10 points in 25 playoff contests.
Selected fourth overall by Minnesota, Pouliot has 76 goals and 84 assists in 371 career games with the Wild, Montreal, Boston, Tampa Bay and the Rangers.
Fayne, 27, joins the Oilers after playing the past four years with the New Jersey Devils. He posted four goals and 11 points in 72 games this past season and has 13 goals with 35 assists in 242 career games.
Also, the team re-signed left winger Luke Gazdic to a two-year contract. He had two goals and two assists along with 127 penalty minutes over 67 games last season with Edmonton. His 15 fighting majors was tied for third in the NHL.
