Isles sign G Johnson
Jul 1, 2014 - 10:44 PM Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Islanders solidified their situation in net on Tuesday, signing backup goaltender Chad Johnson to a two- year deal.Johnson inked a contract reportedly worth $2.6 million with New York where he'll likely serve as the second option to Jaroslav Halak.
The Islanders signed Halak to a four-year deal worth a total of $18 million in late May and he expects to be the club's No. 1 goaltender heading into the 2014-15 season.
Johnson, 28, has played with the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and Phoenix Coyotes over his NHL career and is 20-6-6 with a 2.07 goals against average and .926 save percentage over 37 lifetime games.
The Saskatchewan native went 17-4-3 with a 2.10 GAA and .925 save percentage in 27 games last season as Tuukka Rask's backup in Boston.
The Isles also signed forwards T.J. Brennan and Cory Conacher to one-year deals.
The 25-year-old Brennan had 25 goals and 47 assists in 76 games for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League in 2013-14. Brennan has recorded 11 points (4G, 7A) in 40 career games at the NHL level with Buffalo and Florida.
Conacher, 24, split last season between Ottawa and Buffalo, posting seven goals and 19 assists in 79 games. In two NHL seasons, he has scored 18 goals and 37 assists over 126 games.
