Rangers reach deal with Zuccarello

Jul 22, 2014 - 11:38 PM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Rangers and restricted free agent forward Mats Zuccarello agreed to terms Tuesday on an undisclosed contract.

The 26-year-old Norwegian winger set new career highs in goals (19), assists (40) and points (59) in 77 regular-season games for New York last season. Those 59 points represent the most for a Norwegian-born player in NHL history. He then added five goals and eight assists over 25 postseason contests as the Rangers came up short against Los Angeles in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Zuccarello initially signed with New York in 2010 and registered six goals and 17 assists over 42 games as a rookie in 2010-11. In 144 overall games at the NHL level, the left-handed shooter has posted 30 goals, 63 assists and a plus-24 rating.
