Svedberg gets 1st shutout as Bruins rattle Sabres

Oct 19, 2014 - 5:40 AM Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Niklas Svedberg stopped all 32 shots he faced and four different players lit the lamp as Boston claimed a 4-0 victory over Buffalo on Saturday night.

Svedberg, who suffered a hard-luck defeat on Monday when a shot from Colorado's Danny Briere eluded him in the final second of regulation in a 2-1 loss, avoided any drama with his first NHL clean sheet.

Dougie Hamilton, Zdeno Chara, Torey Krug and Carl Soderberg provided offense for the Bruins, who had dropped a 6-4 decision in Montreal on Thursday.

"We always build our offense from our strong defense," said Chara. "That was the key for tonight."

Jhonas Enroth made 32 saves in defeat for the Sabres, who fell to 1-5-0 on the season.

"I thought we had good spurts of pressure. We have to continue to find ways to get pucks at the net," said Buffalo forward Brian Gionta.

Hamilton put the Bruins on the board at the midway point of the first period, when his wrister from the right point sailed through traffic and past Enroth.

Chara made it 2-0 with 6:29 remaining on a bullet from a stride below the left circle.

Svedberg was under siege at times from a charged-up Sabres offense, but made that two-goal margin hold up with 16 first-period stops.

Krug's blast from the right point appeared to deflect off bodies in front with 8:20 to play in the second and made it a three-goal bulge for the visitors.

Soderberg pumped home his second of the season -- a backhander from the right side of the crease -- just over three minutes later and the Bruins led by four after 40 minutes.

Svedberg needed to make just five saves in the second, then preserved the winning margin with 11 stops in the third period.

Game Notes

Patrice Bergeron's assist on Hamilton's marker moved him into a tie for 13th place on the Bruins' all-time scoring list with 499 points (Adam Oates) ... Svedberg authored Boston's second shutout of the Sabres in their last five games in Buffalo, following Anton Khudobin's 26-save whitewash in a 2-0 decision on March 31, 2013.
