Final
Gibson and Ducks down Jackets
Oct 25, 2014 - 5:37 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - John Gibson stopped 16 shots for his first win of the season as the Anaheim Ducks topped the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-1, on Friday.Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf and Sami Vatanen each had a goal and an assist, while Devante Smith-Pelly also scored for the Ducks, who have won seven straight since opening the season with a loss at Pittsburgh.
"It's nice to put a couple of good games together where we've played some good opponents and felt like we rose to the occasion," Getzlaf said.
Scott Hartnell scored the only goal of the game for the Blue Jackets, who were coming off a win in San Jose on Thursday. Sergei Bobrovsky allowed three goals on 33 shots.
"It's tough to get shots when you're playing defense all night and chasing the puck around," said Hartnell. "We needed to play the puck more and it just seemed like we spent the whole night chasing it."
Anaheim got on the board just 1:28 into the game on the power play as Vatanen made a short pass to Perry down low at the right side and he made a move to the front of the net before stuffing in a backhander for his ninth of the season.
Again on the power play, the Ducks made it a 2-0 game at 8:37 of the first as Vatanen unleashed a cannon blast from the right point that went past Bobrovsky thanks to a screen by Perry.
The Blue Jackets got on the board with a power-play goal of their own, as Hartnell notched his first of the season. His one-timer from the left circle was stopped by Gibson, but the rebound hit off one of his defenders and went in.
Anaheim got the only goal of the second period on Smith-Pelly's second of the season when he redirected a feed from Perry in front at 13:06.
Gibson needed to stop just five shots in the third period, while Getzlaf tallied an empty-netter with 2:27 to play to account for the final score.
