Blackhawks host Sens trying to avoid third straight loss

Oct 26, 2014 - 1:40 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Blackhawks will try to avoid a third straight setback on Sunday evening as they return home to face the Ottawa Senators.

The Blackhawks dropped a pair of one-goal games on the road following a 4-0-1 start, losing in Nashville and St. Louis. The 3-2 loss to the Blues came on Saturday night and saw Antti Raanta make 28 saves in defeat.

Raanta, starting again in place of the injured Corey Crawford (upper body), was tagged for a pair of goals in a 1:45 span late in the second period. The second and eventual game-winner was scored with six seconds left in the frame as Dmitrij Jaskin ripped home a loose puck from the high slot.

"That was a bad goal," Raanta admitted of the game-winner.

Patrick Sharp registered a goal and assist for the Blackhawks, while Kris Versteeg had the other goal.

Chicago will be without forward Dan Carcillo for at least the next week due to a right knee injury suffered last night.

Ottawa also will be playing for a second night in a row and are coming off an emotional 3-2 overtime setback to the New Jersey Devils. It was the first game for the Senators since their contest with Toronto on Wednesday was postponed due to a shooting in downtown Ottawa.

Prior to the game, the Senators honored Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, who was gunned down while standing guard at Canada's National War Memorial on Wednesday. The gunman was later killed while attempting to storm Parliament Hill.

The Senators also honored Warrant Officer Patrick Vincent, who was killed on Monday in Quebec when a man drove into him with a car.

A moment of silence was held for the victims prior to the national anthems, with both teams circling members of the Canadian Armed Forces at center ice.

"It was a great ceremony," Senators goaltender Robin Lehner said. "We're trying to get the city to come together."

Lehner made 26 saves in the loss, one that snapped Ottawa's four-game winning streak. Bobby Ryan scored a game-tying goal with 6:09 left in regulation.

The Senators snapped a three-game series losing streak with a home victory over the Blackhawks on March 28, but have still lost six of the last eight meetings overall and five straight in Chicago.

Ottawa has not won in the Windy City since March 28, 2001.
