Tarasenko hat trick lifts Blues over Stars in OT
Oct 29, 2014 - 5:28 AM Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Vladimir Tarasenko capped off his first career hat trick with a power-play goal in overtime to lead the St. Louis Blues in a 4-3 win over the Dallas Stars.Tyler Seguin was called for high sticking just 14 seconds in, and Tarasenko gave the Blues the win when he one-timed a Kevin Shattenkirk pass at the right circle that beat Kari Lehtonen to the short side at 1:28.
Jori Lehtera posted a goal and two assists, while Brian Elliott turned away 25 shots for the Blues, who have won their past two.
Seguin and Trevor Daley each had a goal and an assist, with Jamie Oleksiak also scoring for the Stars, who have dropped their last two. Lehtonen finished the game with 23 stops.
Oleksiak's first career goal came at 13:10 of the first period when Seguin fed him a pass to the right point and he let fly with a shot that made its way past Elliott, who was crashed into by one of his teammates.
St. Louis answered quickly, though, with Tarasenko's first of the game as he snapped a heavy wrister in from the slot just 35 seconds after Oleksiak's marker.
"We had just scored," said Lindy Ruff. "We made it easy on them. We cut the ice into about three-quarters and said, 'Here, we're going to give you a little bit of an opportunity.'"
The Stars made it a 2-1 game at 5:28 of the second, when the team worked the puck all around the St. Louis end before Jason Spezza sent a pass from the right corner to the circle, where Seguin one-timed it home.
It was a short-lived lead, though, as the Blues scored 37 seconds later. A turnover saw the team skate into the Dallas end with Tarasenko flicking a saucer pass from the left wing to the right where Lehtera backhanded it in.
"It was a wild game," said Blues coach Ken Hitchcock. "It was the best and worst for both teams."
Once again it was Dallas grabbing a lead. This time, on the power play when Daley's shot from the left circle hit off the stick of a Blue and went in at 3:27.
It took a bit over eight minutes for the Blues to once again tie the game, though, and this one came from Tarasenko as he skated down the right wing and made a move to get inside the defender, snapping a wrister into the left side.
