Blackhawks edge Senators in shootout

Oct 31, 2014 - 4:38 AM Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Patrick Sharp scored in the third round of the shootout to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 5-4 win over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.

Sharp was the final skater of the shootout and he made it count as he faked to the forehand and roofed the puck over Craig Anderson for the win.

"It's always nice to get a win on the road in a tough place like this," said Sharp. "It was tough for us to handle when they tied it with two minutes left, but we were able to pull it out and get the two points."

Jonathan Toews scored twice while Kris Versteeg and Marian Hossa each posted a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks, who have won two of their last three games. Scott Darling made 28 saves in the win.

Bobby Ryan, Clarke MacArthur, Mark Stone and Mika Zibanejad all scored for the Senators, who have lost three of their last four. Anderson stopped 35 shots.

"We fought hard to the end of the game," said Zibanejad. "They're a good team over there and we stuck with our plan. Would have been nice to get the win, but rallying back there at the end was nice."

Ottawa scored just 2:48 in on a give-and-go with Curtis Lazar and Stone that Stone finished off with a redirect down low.

Chicago, though, scored the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead into the second period, as Toews slipped in a rebound at 11:25, and Versteeg scored on a beautiful individual effort as he faked Erik Karlsson to get in the clear and stuffed the puck in from in front at 15:38.

The Senators scored the only goal of the second period, and they did it on the power play as MacArthur took a pass from David Legwand and pushed it in from in front at 2:51.

Ryan scored just 30 seconds into the third when a Chicago player was unable to clear a rebound and Ryan quickly whipped it in from in front.

Toews' second of the game came seven minutes later when a left point shot from Brent Seabrook hit bodies in front and Toews was behind the goalie to push it in.

The Blackhawks took a 4-3 lead with 6:10 to play after Hossa wrapped the puck in from the right side for his second of the year.

Ottawa, though, tied the game with 2:08 left in regulation when Zibanejad's low shot from the slot went past several bodies in front and in for his first of the season.

Ottawa plays at Boston on Saturday ... Chicago plays at Toronto on Saturday ... Chicago had taken a 2-1 win over Ottawa at home on Sunday ... Ottawa was 1-for-6 on the power play, while Chicago was scoreless on its five chances.
