Bjugstad, Panthers light up Ducks

Nov 17, 2014 - 4:38 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Bjugstad finished with two goals and two assists to lead a potent offensive attack that powered the Florida Panthers to a 6-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.

Brad Boyes tallied two goals and an assist, Jonathan Huberdeau added a goal and a helper and Vincent Trocheck also scored for the Panthers, who exploded with four second-period goals to rebound from a 4-3 shootout loss to the Islanders on Friday.

"We talk about it all year long - make sure you're shooting pucks," Panthers head coach Gerard Gallant said. "They pounded some pucks tonight and they competed."

Al Montoya made 33 saves for his first win as a member of the Panthers.

Hampus Lindholm and Andrew Cogliano each lit the lamp for Anaheim, while Frederik Andersen allowed four goals on 15 shots.

Jason LaBarbera came on and gave up two goals on 14 shots in relief for the Ducks, who have lost five of their last six. Ducks forward Cory Perry returned to the ice after missing five games with the mumps, but was kept off the scoresheet to end his seven-game point streak.

"We weren't ready and it showed in the first period. No one in this room was ready, starting from the net on out," said Andersen. "That's unacceptable in this league, and we paid for it today. We have to be better."

Florida seized control of the game with four unanswered goals in the middle stanza.

The Panthers took a 3-1 lead on two goals, separated by just 2:48. Boyes tipped in Huberdeau's shot 1:23 into the stanza and Bjugstad drove up the left side before sneaking a wrister past Andersen at 4:11.

Aaron Ekblad took a pass at the blue line and had his shot was deflected by Huberdeau into the back of the net midway through the frame.

Boyes scored his second of the night by firing a quick shot through the legs of the Anaheim netminder for a 4-1 advantage with 2:41 left in the second.

Bjugstad's shot through traffic from the left circle made it a 6-1 contest less than five minutes into the final stanza.

Cogliano's shot from the right circle squirted through Montoya's pads late in the third to cap the scoring.

Trocheck wristed a shot over the glove from the right circle off a 2-on-1 for the game's opening marker 4:40 into the game.

Emerson Etem dropped a pass back to Lindholm, whose shot from the top of the left circle beat Montoya for a tied game at 12:16 of the first.

Florida won in Anaheim for the first time since Nov. 9, 2008 ... Jussi Jokinen and Brian Campbell each had two assists for Florida ... Anaheim placed forward Devante Smith-Pelly on injured reserve with an upper-body injury.
