Price, Canadiens top Senators
Dec 21, 2014 - 3:40 AM Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Carey Price settled in to make 24 saves after allowing a short-handed goal a few minutes into the game and the Montreal Canadiens beat the Ottawa Senators 4-1 on Saturday.Montreal scored four unanswered goals to win its fourth game in its last five. Brandon Prust and Brendan Gallagher scored in the first and second periods, respectively, and Tomas Plekanec and Alex Galchenyuk scored third-period markers to put the game away.
"We may hit a few bumps along the way, but we're working hard and we try to go out there and have fun," Galchenyuk said of his line.
Erik Condra potted Ottawa's only goal as it had its brief two-game winning streak snapped.
Robin Lehner made 25 saves on 29 shots in the Senators' loss.
Prust tied the game in the first period. His shot from a tight angle squeaked past Lehner and barely crossed the goal line. The goal was reviewed by the NHL's situation room and confirmed.
"I thought we played well enough to win," said Senators coach Dave Cameron. "They jumped us early in the first but the last half was pretty even."
At the 7:30 mark of the second period, Gallagher scored in transition when he beat David Legwand to the far post and Galchenyuk found him with a pass across the slot to put in the go-ahead goal.
Goals not even a minute apart at the end of the third period sealed the game for Montreal. On the power play, Plekanec took a pass at the goal line, drove to the net and slid the puck around Lehner for the insurance marker.
Just 44 seconds later, Galchenyuk put the Senators away with his 10th of the season. Camping out at the side of the net, Alexei Emelin found him on a breakaway and set up Galchenyuk to hammer the puck past Lehner.
Ottawa only managed five shots in the final period.
The Senators jumped out to an early lead on a short-handed breakaway. Price struggled with Condra's rising shot, and before he could find the puck sitting in the crease behind him, Condra beat Andrei Markov to the puck and tapped it in to open the scoring.

Prust's goal was his 100th NHL point ... Markov has a goal and four assists in a four-game point streak ... Kyle Turris and Mark Stone both lost five-game point streaks for Ottawa ...
