Sharks activate Thornton off IR

Jan 11, 2015 - 2:54 AM San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Jose Sharks activated forward Joe Thornton off injured reserve prior to Saturday's game against the New York Rangers.

Thornton had his streak of 319 consecutive games played come to an end after he suffered an upper-body injury during a 3-0 loss to the Pacific Division rival Anaheim Ducks on Dec. 31.

The 35-year-old, who has recorded nine goals and 24 assists through 38 games this season, missed a game for the first time since Nov. 11, 2010. The streak was the third-longest in franchise history.

San Jose also placed defenseman Mirco Mueller on injured reserve. Mueller was injured while playing for Switzerland in the World Juniors tournament and has not played with the Sharks since Dec. 11th.
