Final
Hammond, Sens blank Ducks
Feb 26, 2015 - 6:24 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Andrew Hammond posted his first career shutout as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Anaheim Ducks 3-0 on Wednesday.Hammond stopped all 25 shots he faced in his third straight start in place of injured netminders Craig Anderson and Robin Lehner. He is the first goaltender in franchise history to win his first three NHL starts in consecutive team games.
"Obviously it's special. It's my first NHL shutout," said Hammond. "Anaheim's one of the top teams in the league right now so to do it against them is pretty cool."
Erik Condra, Mika Zibanejad and Kyle Turris all scored for the Senators, who have won three straight games and four of their last five.
John Gibson stopped 31-of-33 shots as Anaheim's three-game winning streak came to an end.
"You can't come back from 2-0 every night," Ducks forward Corey Perry said. "We have to play our game and clean up that second period."
Eric Gryba's shot from the point deflected off Condra in front to start the scoring just past the midway point of the opening stanza.
In the second period, Zibanejad tapped home the rebound of Mike Hoffman's shot from along the left-wing boards to make it a 2-0 game at 3:23.
Anaheim pulled Gibson with under two minutes left in regulation, and Turris blasted the puck from his own zone into the vacated cage to seal the win.
