Blackhawks acquire Timonen from Flyers

Feb 28, 2015 - 1:30 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Blackhawks acquired veteran defenseman Kimmo Timonen Friday in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Blackhawks sent a 2015 second-round draft pick and a conditional 2016 fourth-round draft pick to the Flyers in the deal.

Timonen has not played this season since he was diagnosed with blood clots in his leg and lungs back in early August. He was cleared by doctors earlier this month and was scheduled to make his debut for the Flyers on Saturday.

The 39-year-old native of Finland ranks third among active defenseman with 571 points in 1,092 career games over 15 seasons with Philadelphia and Nashville. He has posted four goals and 31 assists in 87 career playoff games.

Chicago also announced that it placed defenseman Johnny Oduya on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Oduya has tallied two goals and three assists in 60 games this season.
