Bruins pick up Talbot from Avalanche
Mar 2, 2015 - 10:36 PM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Bruins picked up veteran insurance on the forward lines Monday, snagging Max Talbot from the Colorado Avalanche.Talbot won a Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2009, scoring both goals in the Pens' 2-1 Game 7 win at Detroit to clinch the franchise's third championship. He has collected 39 points (18G, 21A) over 84 postseason appearances with three different teams, but failed to record a point in Colorado's seven-game first-round loss to Minnesota last spring.
In the regular season, the 31-year-old Montreal-area native compiled 89 goals and 105 assists across 648 appearances for the Pens, Flyers and Avs since 2005.
The B's also gained forward Paul Carey while giving up forward Jordan Caron and a sixth-round pick in the 2016 draft.
Carey, 26, has just one assist over 22 games for the Avs over parts of two seasons to his credit. Caron, 24, a former first-round selection in 2009, has totaled 12 goals and 16 assists in 134 games for Boston over parts of five seasons. He did not record a point in 11 contests this year.
In a concurrent, minor transaction, Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli also announced the acquisition of forward Zack Phillips from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Jared Knight.
