Lehtonen, Stars shut out Blackhawks
Mar 22, 2015 - 3:58 AM Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Kari Lehtonen turned aside all 33 shots he faced for his fifth shutout of the season to lead the Dallas Stars in a 4-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.Patrick Eaves and Jason Spezza each posted a goal and an assist, while Shawn Horcoff and Tyler Seguin also scored for the Stars, who have won five of their last six games.
"We got the lead there quickly," said Lehtonen. "It was fun to play."
Corey Crawford allowed all four goals on 29 shots for the Blackhawks, who had a four-game winning streak snapped.
"Tonight I thought we got outworked and that was right from the outset," Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville said. "They were the better team."
Chicago is now four points behind both Nashville and St. Louis for first place in the Central Division.
The Stars got on the board near the halfway mark of the first period off a rush play that had Alex Goligoski send a pass from the right wing to the left where Eaves shot it home.
Skating on the power play, the Stars took a 2-0 lead with 3:58 to play in the first after Seguin buried a rebound chance from the left side for his 33rd marker on the season.
After a scoreless second period, the Stars made it a 3-0 game with another power-play goal at 6:02 of the third after Horcoff redirected Goligoski's shot from the high slot.
Just over a minute later, Brandon Saad was awarded a penalty shot as he was tripped up by Jordie Benn on a breakaway, but Lehtonen stopped Saad's backhander with the pads to keep the Blackhawks off the board.
Spezza put the game out of reach at 9:32 when he finished off a turnover in the Chicago end with a wrister over the glove of Crawford from the slot.
