Ducks hope to rebound in Columbus

Mar 24, 2015 - 2:47 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Anaheim Ducks will look to put a rough start to their road trip behind them on Tuesday night when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Ducks kicked off a five-game eastern swing on Sunday by getting routed 7-2 by the New York Rangers. Anaheim failed in its bid to reach the 100-point mark on the season and is tied with the Rangers and Montreal Canadiens for the NHL lead with 99 points.

Corey Perry scored twice to reach the 30-goal mark for the fifth time in his career as the Ducks had a four-game winning streak snapped with only their fifth loss in 16 games. They own an 11-point lead over the Vancouver Canucks for first place in the Pacific Division.

"We're going to flush it and move on," said Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf. "That's all you can do on these nights. Burn the tape. Move on. Get ready to play the next one because tonight was embarrassing. It was terrible."

Frederik Andersen lasted just over half of the opening period, having allowed three goals on seven shots in the loss. John Gibson finished the contest with 18 saves, giving up the other four goals.

"We weren't very good, obviously," said Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau. "From the goaltending on out."

Andersen has now lost three of his past four starts, while Gibson has won three straight and could get the call tonight. Gibson stopped 16-of-17 shots faced to beat the Blue Jackets 4-1 in Anaheim on Oct. 24 in his first career start against them.

Perry and Getzlaf both had a goal and an assist in the win, while Scott Hartnell scored for the Blue Jackets and Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves in the loss.

These two clubs have split their past eight meetings in Columbus.

The Blue Jackets return home having swept a three-game swing through Western Canada for the first time in team history. They accomplished the feat by topping the Calgary Flames 3-2 in overtime on Saturday.

Rene Bourque's second goal of the game was the winner with 58.5 seconds on the clock and Artem Anisimov also tallied. Bobrovsky posted 38 saves.

"I didn't know it was the first time in franchise history until the coaches came in here after the game," said Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson. "It's a small consolation prize in a year like this, where we're not in the position we want to be. We can be proud of that."

The Blue Jackets have won six of their last seven games and matched a franchise record with their sixth consecutive victory on the road. They can break the mark on Friday in Chicago to begin a quick two-game set.

Injuries have plagued Columbus all season and forwards Brandon Dubinsky (upper body) and Alexander Wennberg (infected hand) along with defenseman Ryan Murray (lower body) are all out for tonight.

The Blue Jackets recalled forward William Karlsson from Springfield of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis Monday. Columbus acquired both Karlsson, Bourque and a second-round draft pick from the Ducks on March 2 in exchange for defenseman James Wisniewski.

Bobrovsky is likely to start tonight and is 3-5-0 in eight games versus the Ducks with a 2.87 goals against average and .903 save percentage.
