On the ropes, Blackhawks scratch Timonen

May 28, 2015 - 12:13 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Facing elimination in a Game 6 on home ice Wednesday against the Anaheim Ducks, the Chicago Blackhawks decided to make veteran defenseman Kimmo Timonen a healthy scratch.

Taking Timonen's place in the lineup will be David Rundblad.

The Blackhawks acquired Timonen from the Flyers shortly before the trade deadline, sending a 2015 second-round draft pick and a conditional 2016 fourth-round draft pick to Philly in the deal.

Timonen, who hadn't played previous to the deal due to recovery from multiple blood clots, finished the regular season by playing 16 games and seeing almost 12 minutes of ice time per game.

However, Timonen has seen limited duty as a sixth d-man during the postseason, averaging less than 9 1/2 minutes per contest. His playoff high of 16:45 came in a triple-OT win on May 19 in Game 2 of this series. He has only eclipsed the 10-minute mark in seven of his 15 appearances.

Rundblad, 24, appeared in just one previous contest, the current series opener 10 days ago. He posted three goals and 11 assists in 49 regular-season games.
