Senators activate D Carkner from IR, assign to minors

Oct 19, 2007 - 10:32 PM OTTAWA (Ticker) -- The Ottawa Senators on Friday activated defenseman Matt Carkner from injured reserve and assigned him to Binghamton of the American Hockey League.

Signed to a one-year contract over the summer, Carkner has been sidelined since suffering a broken left hand during a fight in Ottawa's preseason opener against Philadelphia on September 18. The 26-year-old must clear waivers by noon on Monday before joining Binghamton.

A second-round pick of Montreal in 1999, Carkner made his NHL debut with San Jose in 2005-06, recording an assist and two penalty minutes on one game. Last season, he notched six goals, 30 points and 167 penalty minutes in 75 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL.
