UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) - Derek Roy will try to lead the Buffalo Sabres to their fourth consecutive victory when they visit the New York Islanders on Wednesday.
Roy has had at least one point in each contest during the Sabres' three-game winning streak. He has notched two goals and five points over that stretch, including a pair of assists Saturday in a 3-1 triumph over the Chicago Blackhawks.
The 24-year-old center leads the club with 12 goals and 18 points this season. His success, however, has been limited on the road, registering just four tallies and six assists away from the HSBC Arena.
The struggling Islanders will be without Chris Simon, who agreed to take a paid leave of absence following Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins when he knocked down Jarkko Ruutu and stepped on him, drawing a match penalty for intent to injure.
Simon reportedly met with league officials Tuesday and will soon be handed his seventh career suspension. It has been just 26 contests since he returned from a 25-game suspension for intentional high sticking New York Rangers left wing Ryan Hollweg last season.
The 35-year-old Simon has just one goal and two assists with 41 penalty minutes this season.
The Islanders are 2-6-1 over their last nine contests.
