Allmendinger tested positive for Adderall

Aug 8, 2012 - 12:35 AM Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Suspended NASCAR driver A.J. Allmendinger revealed on Tuesday that he tested positive for Adderall, a drug typically prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

During an interview with ESPN, Allmendinger revealed he tested positive for the substance. Allmendinger said he was in Louisville on the Wednesday prior to the Quaker State 400 race, on June 30. During the interview, Allmendinger said he was tired and didn't have lot of energy and that a friend of a friend gave him a pill and stated it was an energy supplement.

Allmendinger said going into NASCAR's random drug test that he had no concern of a positive result because he had "never taken a drug before in my life." Allmendinger said that was the only time he's ever taken Adderall.

In the time since the test, Allmendinger, 30, has been put on indefinite suspension and he's been released from Penske Racing. He's currently going through NASCAR's Road to Recovery program.
