Columbus, RBNY share the spoils at Crew Stadium
Apr 27, 2014 - 1:35 AM Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Red Bull New York and the Columbus Crew split the points at Crew Stadium on Saturday as the two sides played to a 1-1 draw.Columbus broke the deadlock six minutes before halftime through Jairo Arrieta. The hosts were awarded a penalty kick when Kosuke Kimura barged into the back of Justin Meram in the box, which allowed Arrieta to convert on the ensuing spot attempt.
The Crew held the narrow lead until the 66th minute when Bradley Wright- Phillips leveled the score with his fourth goal of the week. The Englishman, who netted a hat trick in New York's 4-0 defeat of the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday, took one touch to settle Lloyd Sam's cross before ripping a shot off the post and into the back of the net.
Neither side managed to find a winner in the final 24 minutes of play, forcing Columbus (3-1-3) to settle for a third successive draw while seeing New York (2-2-5) stay one point back of the Crew.
